Honor experience 03 :
Peer Career Coach at Bearcats Promise Career Studio
During the spring 2022 semester, I got an opportunity to work as a peer career coach at Bearcats Promise Career Studio which is located in TUC. It was very competitive to get this position, there were hundreds of applicants, only 15 candidates got to the interview round, only 4 students got the job offers and I was one of them. I was very honored to receive this opportunity and was very excited to work at BPCS.
The Bearcat Promise Career Studio is a place where all UC students can participate in career exploration, planning, and development. Whether you’re writing your resume or interviewing for your job. Professional career coaches and peer career coaches are available for virtual and in-person appointments.
During my time there, I helped a lot of students with their resumes, cover letters, and mock interviews. I also worked the front desk and assisted with professional headshots and verified onboarding documents. Working here allow me to use my creativity to solve the problems, I created the interactive guide for PCC to review different types of engineering resume and I created a flowchart of the i9 verification process because it was very confusing at the beginning.
Working here helped me grow as a person professionally and personally. I learn so much about resumes and cover letters, how to communicate in a professional setting, worked as a team, and how solve unexpected problems. I also gained new friends from working here, I got to know a lot of wonderful and smart people and I was mentored by the career coaches. In addition, I'm glad that I got to help other students who came in to help "shine" their talents on their resumes and helped them land the job. I'm looking forward to coming back to work here in the fall 2022 semester to learn and grow as a person.
